“You have the right name, but you are using it wrong” said one construction worker to the other.  The man responded with another blasphemous curse.  With a lone tear flowing down his cheek, the first man shared, “If you knew the Jesus Christ that I know, you would not speak of Him that way.”

Why is it that the name of Christ is one of the most offensive, respected, and adored names throughout the world?  Is it not because of Who He claimed to be?  To many people, Jesus is merely a historical figure who was a good moral teacher or prophet.  But this idea is not an option that His words leave open to us.

A man who said the type of things that Jesus said would logically be one of three things.  He would either have to be a liar because he knew that he really was not the person that he claimed to be, if not a liar, then a lunatic because he thought that he was who he claimed to be, if not a liar or a lunatic, then He must be LORD because He really is Who He claimed to be.

The Bible teaches that Jesus Christ is the GOD-MAN.  He is fully God and fully Man.  There is nobody else in history like Jesus because there is only one true and living God.  Jesus Christ is the holy Creator of the universe and gracious Redeemer of mankind.

Christ is the answer to the ultimate questions of life that plague the hearts of people the world over.  “Where did I come from?”, “Why am I here?”, and “Where am I going?” are the big questions of life.  The human heart longs for answers to the questions of origin, purpose, and destiny.  Every belief system attempts to answer them but Jesus Christ is the Ultimate Answer to the ultimate questions.

The exclusivity of the truth claims of Christ is the reason that He is either offensive or worshipped.  Jesus is not just another option on the a-la-cart menu of religious tastes, choices, and preferences.  He is not simply a way to know about the Divine but He is the only way to know God.  He is not simply one of many teachers of truth but He is the embodiment of truth.  He is not simply one way to live but He is the meaning and purpose of life.

Scripture says, “Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12).  Everyone throughout history will one day bow before the throne and confess that Jesus Christ is Lord to the glory of God the Father (Phil.2:9-11).  At that day, will He be your Judge and condemn you to hell or your Savior and welcome you to heaven?  What we do with Jesus Christ on this side of death will determine our eternal destiny!

“He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love, in Whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins.  He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.  For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers.  All things were created through Him and for Him.  And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.  And He is the head of the body, the church, Who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence.” Colossians 1:13-18
